"It's not about what it is, it's about what it can become!" -Dr.Seuss
January 24th, 2019- This week we had the honor of meeting Scott McNeal (otherwise known as "Gus Macker") and Patty Donovan, when they came in to talk to the class. Scott told us the story of how the tournament came to be and how eventually CMU became involved, and Patty showed us how the budget and logistics work behind the scenes.
To start off the class, Tim Otteman and Scott McNeal did their annual gift exchange - to see who could out gift each other! Scott and Patty received the first ever CMU logo tie, socks, and framed memorabilia from The Malt Shop. Scott gave Tim some personalized Central shoes, a Gus Macker 45 years shirt, and our TA's some nice Gus Macker jackets. Overall, a very thoughtful exchange!
After the gifts, Scott went into detail about how it all began and showed us different celebrities who have attended. Patty brought out her "magic binder" which is the official guide for any Gus Macker tournament and a go-to for any of the questions you may have, and gave us information about the budgeting and some of what has changed throughout the years.
To end the class, we did the Macker tunnel, took a team picture, and then our TA Bailey and Scott had a fun game planned for us to play. Our winners received Gus Macker basketballs!
Overall, we enjoyed learning about the details of Gus Macker and had so much fun doing so. We love Gus and Patty and can't wait to meet our next guest speakers!
